Block distracting websites. Pay once, or not at all.

Bollard is a Chrome extension that blocks the sites you choose during a timed focus session. The free version blocks up to 5 sites with no account and no time limit. Pro removes the limits for one payment of $12.99. There is no subscription, and your block list never leaves your browser.

Install from the Chrome Web StoreSee what Pro adds

Free to install. Works in Google Chrome 120 and later. Made in London.

What it does

Everything below is in the free version. Nothing is time-limited and there is no trial that runs out.

Sessions

Timed focus sessions

Start a session of 25, 50 or 90 minutes, or set your own length up to 12 hours, from the toolbar. The minutes left show on the icon.

Blocking

Up to 5 sites, properly blocked

Each site is blocked with all its subdomains, and so are the background requests it makes (feeds, live updates, embedded video), not just the page.

Block page

A calm block page

It says which site is blocked, why, and how long is left, with your own note if you want one. No shaming, no ads.

Pauses

Pause when you need to

Pause blocking for 5 minutes, up to three times a day. The block page tells you how many pauses are left.

Counts

See what got blocked

A count of how many times each site was blocked today. The counts stay in your browser.

Dark theme

Follows your computer

Switches to a dark theme by itself when your computer is in dark mode.

Free and Pro

Pro features are visible in the extension before you buy, marked Pro, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

Free

$0

No account, no trial, no time limit

  • Block up to 5 sites in one list
  • Timed focus sessions from the toolbar
  • Block page with your own note
  • Three 5-minute pauses a day

Pro

$12.99

Paid once. Updates included. No subscription.

  • Unlimited sites and lists (for example "Work" and "Evenings")
  • Schedules: block a list on chosen days and times, such as weekdays 09:00 to 12:30, including overnight
  • Strict mode: no pausing during a session or schedule, and stopping early needs a 60-character sentence typed in full
  • Daily allowances: for example 20 minutes a day on a site, then it is blocked until midnight
  • Keyword and path rules: block every address containing /shorts/, or one part of a site, and leave the rest open
  • Export and import your settings, and optional Chrome sync between your own browsers
  • Redirect to an address of your choice instead of the block page

The Pro features are shown in the free version, marked Pro. The Upgrade button in the extension takes you to a payment page run by ExtensionPay and Stripe. Prices are in US dollars. Your card provider converts, and tax may be added where it applies.

Why one price

A website blocker is a small tool. We do not think it should cost you money every month for as long as you use it.

Pay once, keep it

Pro is one payment. There is no renewal, no card on file with us, and no feature that stops working if you do not pay again.

What subscription blockers charge

Freedom, a well-known subscription blocker, lists Premium at $8.99 a month, or $3.33 a month if you pay a year up front, and its lifetime plan at $99.50 (prices on freedom.to, 3 November 2026). Scheduling and locked sessions are paid features there. A year of the cheaper Freedom plan costs about three times Bollard Pro, and Bollard Pro is yours after that.

No account

Subscription blockers need an account so they can bill you. Bollard does not bill you again, so it does not need one. Your lists, schedules and counts are stored in your own browser.

The honest limits

Bollard works in Google Chrome only. It does not block desktop apps or other browsers, and it cannot stop you removing the extension. If you need blocking across a phone and several computers, a subscription blocker with apps for each may suit you better. See the comparison.

Privacy

Bollard has no servers, no analytics and no account. We cannot see what you block or what you visit.

Your lists stay in your browser

Block lists, schedules, session state and counts are kept in Chrome's extension storage on your device. Chrome sync is off unless you turn it on (Pro), and then it goes through your own Google account, not through us.

Nothing about your browsing

Bollard never collects your browsing history, page content or the addresses you visit. Blocking uses Chrome's own rules system, which blocks requests without the extension reading your pages.

Permissions, one site at a time

Bollard never asks for access to all sites. When you add a site, Chrome asks whether Bollard may access that one site, so it can show its own block page there. Say no and the site is still blocked, with Chrome's standard page instead.

Questions

Is the free version really free?

Yes. Up to 5 sites, timed sessions, the block page, pauses and counts, with no account and no time limit. It is not a trial.

What happens when I pay for Pro?

Pro is a one-time purchase of $12.99 through ExtensionPay, which uses Stripe to take the payment. You enter your email and card details on their pages, not in the extension. Bollard then unlocks Pro in that Chrome profile. Updates are included.

Can I use Pro on another computer?

Yes. Click Restore in the extension on the other computer and sign in with the email you paid with. Your purchase follows your ExtensionPay login, and Chrome's own sync can carry it between browsers you are signed in to.

Can I get round the block?

You can always remove the extension. Chrome does not let an extension stop that, and we say so on the block page. Strict mode (Pro) switches pausing off and makes stopping early slow enough to think twice. Bollard is a tool you choose to use, not enforcement.

Why does Chrome ask for access to a site when I add it?

Chrome only lets an extension replace a page with its own page on sites the extension has access to. Bollard asks for one site at a time, only when you add it, so it can show its block page there. If you decline, the site is still blocked and Chrome shows its standard blocked page. Bollard never asks for access to all sites.

Does it work on Edge, Firefox or my phone?

Google Chrome only, version 120 and later, on Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS. It is not available for Firefox or Safari, and there are no phone apps.

Does it block apps on my computer?

No. Bollard blocks websites inside Chrome. It does not touch desktop applications or other browsers.

Can I get a refund?

Email us within 14 days of buying and we will refund you. We would rather hear what went wrong than keep the money.
