What Bollard stores, and where
Bollard stores the following in your browser's extension storage on your device (chrome.storage.local). It is not sent to us or to anyone else.
| What | Details | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Block lists | The site addresses, keywords and paths you add (for example youtube.com), the list names, and the date each entry was added. | Until you remove them |
| Schedules | The days and times you choose, and which list each schedule blocks. | Until you remove them |
| Daily allowances | The sites you give a daily allowance, and the minutes allowed. | Until you remove them |
| Focus session | The start and end time of the session that is running, if any. | Until the session ends |
| Pauses | How many 5-minute pauses you used each day. | 7 days |
| Per-site counts | For entries you added yourself only: how many times the block page was shown that day, and, for sites with a daily allowance, the seconds spent on that site that day. | 30 days |
| Settings | Strict mode, the note you write for the block page, an optional redirect address, pauses per day, and whether Chrome sync is on. | Until you change or wipe them |
| Plan | Whether Pro is active and when that was last checked. No email address or payment details. | Until you wipe or uninstall |
While Bollard is timing a site that has a daily allowance, it also keeps which allowance is being timed and since when in chrome.storage.session, which Chrome clears when the browser closes.
Chrome sync (optional, off by default)
If you turn on Chrome sync in Bollard's settings (a Pro feature), a copy of your lists, schedules, allowances and settings is saved in chrome.storage.sync. Chrome then copies it, through your Google account, to the other Chrome browsers where you are signed in with sync turned on. Google handles that copy under Google's privacy policy. Your per-site counts and your plan are never put in the synced copy. Turning sync off in Bollard deletes the synced copy.
What Bollard never collects
- Your browsing history.
- The content of any page.
- The addresses you visit or try to visit. When a site is blocked, only the entry you added that matched (for example
youtube.com) is counted, never the full address. - Analytics, usage tracking, crash reports or advertising identifiers. Bollard contains none of these.
We do not sell, rent or share data, and we do not use it for advertising or credit decisions.
Permissions and site access
Blocking uses Chrome's declarativeNetRequest rules, which block requests without the extension seeing the pages you visit. Bollard also uses storage to save your settings and alarms to start and end sessions and schedules on time.
Bollard asks Chrome for access to a site, one site at a time and only with your consent through Chrome's own prompt, in two cases: when you add a site to a block list (so Bollard can show its own block page in place of the site. If you say no, the site is still blocked and Chrome shows its standard blocked page), and when you set a daily allowance for a site (so Bollard can tell when the active tab is on that site and count the minutes). With that access Bollard reads only the address of tabs on that site, to time an allowance or to reload a tab when the site has just become blocked. It does not read or change page content, and it does not store those addresses.
Payments for Bollard Pro
Bollard Pro is a one-time purchase handled by ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com), which uses Stripe (Stripe privacy policy) to take the payment. Nothing is sent to ExtensionPay until you click Upgrade or Restore a purchase. When you do:
- the ExtensionPay code included in Bollard asks extensionpay.com for a random identifier for this browser, and opens ExtensionPay's payment page or login page.
- you enter your email address and card details on those pages, so ExtensionPay and Stripe receive them under their own privacy policies (see extensionpay.com and the Stripe link above). Bollard never sees your card details.
- the ExtensionPay code saves the random identifier, the date it was first used, and your purchase status (which includes the email address you paid with) in Chrome's extension sync storage, so a purchase can follow your Chrome profile.
- while Pro is active, Bollard checks your purchase status with extensionpay.com about once a week.
Through our ExtensionPay and Stripe accounts we, Reliness, receive the email address you paid with and a record of the payment (amount, date, country). We use this only to provide your purchase, to answer your support requests and to keep the accounting records the law requires. Our lawful bases are the performance of our contract with you and our legal obligations. We keep these records for 6 years after the end of the financial year of the sale, as UK tax law requires.
How to delete your data
- Settings tab, Wipe all data: deletes all lists, schedules, allowances, counts and settings from this browser, and the synced copy if there is one. Your Pro purchase is kept.
- Removing the extension from Chrome deletes everything Bollard stored in this browser.
- To have your payment record deleted (where the law allows), email us.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to receive a copy of it. The data on your device is under your control at all times: you can view it, export it (Pro) and delete it inside the extension. For your payment record, email ben@reliness.co.uk and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first by email. We acknowledge complaints within 30 days and tell you the outcome. You can also complain to the Information Commission, which took over from the Information Commissioner's Office on 30 September 2026, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If what Bollard stores or shares changes, we will update this page and its effective date before the new version of the extension is published, and describe the change in the release notes.
